Dzanar Abbas-Zade was born in the Netherlands and he grew up in a creative family. His father is a painter and sculptor, and his mother was an architect. After discovering graphic design at the age of 15, he graduated from the Graphic School in Zwolle, Netherlands. People often live through contradictions, and Dzanar is no exception. He is an extrovert during the day and an introvert at night, his art reflects the same patterns, making him uniquely versatile yet familiar to everyone.
After experiencing the glow of neon signs as a child for the first time, his future endeavors made him aware of his calling in life. An enhanced sense of synesthesia enabled him to dismantle music and construct art accordingly.
Although neon lights are essentially retro, his love for futurism is what drives him through the digital age. A 21st-century mindset has made him the artist he is today, without losing his youthful outlook on life, something he aims to offer to his clientele and the associated audience.
Tropicality is a way to describe his art and it is evident. As pure as sunsets and a relaxed island lifestyle can be, it is not without love that it makes the whole, and his works reflect that to the core. Love for art, music, and people, as well as a strong sense of sustainability, give his work a sense of urgency.
What feelings inspire you to create your artwork?
I am inspired by a mix of emotions, from joy and freedom to self-reflection. I often draw from my childhood memories to create a world where the impossible feels possible. Through my work, I aim to share strength and positivity, showing people that anything can be achieved.
Your father is also a painter and sculptor. How did having these artistic roots influence you both personally and professionally?
Growing up with my father, who is a creative artist, taught me to see the world differently. He showed me how to observe objects and colors and how to combine different techniques. This foundation gave me the tools and confidence to develop my own unique style. Personally, it connected me to art on a deeper level; professionally, it set me on the path to explore and create without limits.
How do you prepare for each new work, what do you think about, and how do you start each one?
Every artwork begins with a concept or story I want to share. I start by thinking about the emotions and message behind it. From there, I create a world around it, blending digital tools like Cinema 4D and Octane with physical techniques. The process feels like bringing my imagination to life, step by step.
Why do you think you capture the attention of those who see your work? People define them as amazing and exciting.
I think it’s because my work creates a unique world where reality and fantasy meet. I use bold colors like pink to stand out in any setting and mix playful, futuristic, and meaningful elements. This combination surprises people and sparks their curiosity.
You have been hired by leading names in the music industry. What did these experiences mean in your life, and how have they influenced your work?
Working with artists like G-Eazy, Akon, and Chris Brown has been incredible. These experiences pushed me to deliver on a global stage and allowed me to merge my style with their visions. It also showed me the power of visuals to tell a story, which influences how I create my own art today.
Neon lights had a significant influence on your art, but so did the idea of futurism. What can you tell us about both in your concept of art?
Neon lights symbolize energy and life for me. They are bold and impossible to ignore, which is how I want my art to feel. Futurism, on the other hand, inspires me to think ahead and imagine worlds beyond our reality. Together, they shape my vision of art as something vibrant, exciting, and forward-thinking.
What is the dream you have not yet achieved?
My biggest dream is to create an art piece that becomes iconic worldwide—something that people will remember for generations. I also want to establish my own art space where others can feel inspired and connect with my work.
What future do you see in your development as an artist and as a person?
As an artist, I see myself continuing to push boundaries and explore new techniques. I want to expand my art into new forms, like larger installations and collaborations. Personally, I want to keep inspiring people and staying true to my values of freedom and self-expression.
What future do you see for art in general?
I believe art will continue to evolve and blend with technology, making it more accessible and interactive. At the same time, I think the emotional connection art brings will remain strong. Art will always be a way for people to express themselves and find meaning in life.
